Idiotic Headline

This is one of the daftest headlines I have come across, and to my surprise it is coming from Khaleej Times – one of the most respected newspapers in the Middle East – the newspaper I am a current leader of.
Terrorism is a huge threat to healthcare
ABU DHABI — Terrorism is the most challenging threat to healthcare, and causes the most dangerous emergency situations, according to experts at a conference organised by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) in the capital recently.
The two-day conference, titled “Advanced Medical Response in Cases of Disaster”, surveyed ways of handling natural and man-made disasters, such as terrorist threats, and stressed the importance of raising awareness in order to ensure a quick response from both the general public and experts working in the medical field.
Experts revealed that according to the official estimates of WHO, floods constitute the majority of natural disasters, followed by hurricanes. The continent of Asia ranked first in number of natural disasters, followed by Africa and Europe.
What a dramatic discovery! Terrorism is a huge threat to healthcare? How come we did not know that before? Was it because of some government plot, woven in secrecy, to keep this piece of valuable information from us? Silly us, and we thought terrorism has no influence on healthcare what so ever, or maybe even contribute to it in a way…
And last week we were reported that terrorism, apparently, is a threat to agriculture as well. This was uncovered when thousands fled the Somali town of Jilib - a major agriculture center - after it was captured by the Islamic terrorists.
Well, let’s not lose hope. Maybe, just maybe, there is something terrorism is good for? Nanotechnology development? Or building the centers for Quantum Physics research?
