Network Solutions Against Free Speech

Sunday is usually a “No Politics” day at World Divided. Today I postpone this tradition due to the recent development in the saga of the movie - “Fitna”.

“Fitna” is a movie produced by the Dutch MP Geert Wilders, and it exposes the hatred preached in the Muslim religious book - Koran.

Geert Wilders hosted his website fitnathemovie.com at Network Solutions. However, NS decided to take the website down, citing “number of complaints regarding this site that are under investigation”

Subject: “Fitna” Movie Website
Dear NS

As a blogger and as a citizen of the free world I find taking down the website fitnathemovie.com by your company absolutely appalling. It clearly signals that NS has shamefully surrendered its values to those who oppose the freedom of speech and afraid of the different point of view to their own.

Taking down Geert Wilder’s website - fitnathemovie.com - is a decision that is very well in tune with those of the dark totalitarian regimes of China, Sudan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Nepal and others. It may well be that NS forgot the geographical location of its offices, but last time I checked, it is in the United States of America, where the free speech is still practiced.

While I understand the discomfort of those who complained against the movie “Fitna”, it is not them whom the movie targets. The issue of the movie is a number of disturbing messages that are delivered to these very people and their children through Koran. The movie exposes and brings up to discussion the hatred preached in Koran.

It would be one thing if the practices preached in Koran were taking place in the Muslim countries alone. It is, however, a completely different matter when these practices are imported to the Western world (by the waves of uncontrolled immigration) and pose a threat to the values that we (and hopefully you too, in NS) hold dear - freedom of the individual, freedom of speech, etc…

Those who complained against the hosting of fitnathemovie.com may rejoice for a tiny little moment given to them (thanks to you) by taking the website down. The broader effect will be the exact opposite from what these people and probably you have hoped to achieve.

Thank you for clearly defining what you, in NS, stand for and I presume you will be branded accordingly. However, I would be absolutely delighted if you proved me wrong on this one and I’m looking forward to it. Until then, you deserve additional “Thank you” for granting the movie and its website a free advertisement, and for sparking a wider protest which will attract more attention to Geert Wilders and his work.
